The Dixon and Oregon boys bowling teams look to make some noise at the state meet this weekend at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights. The Dukes took 11th last year and Oregon is competing at state as a team for just the second time.

Cason Newton scored 33 points, and Byron scored a season-high by a Pecatonica opponent, but the Tigers fell short in an 83-70 loss to the No. 1 Indians.

Newman ended the game right where it started Wednesday against Erie-Prophetstown. The Comets built a big lead with a huge opening run, then pulled away with a second-half surge for a 65-39 Three Rivers East victory.

Fulton boys basketball beat A-FC, Polo beat Morrison, Milledgeville beat Amboy, Forreston beat Pearl City, Sterling girls bowling and boys wrestling won and more in Wednesday's Sauk Valley roundup.

Polo senior Cheyenna Wilkins had an 'amazing' experience playing for USA's Team Avengers in The Netherlands at The Cup, a fastpitch softball tournament featuring some of the top players from America and Europe. She earned MVP in the first game.

Amboy graduate and Illinois Wesleyan senior Mallory Powers earned the first national recognition of her career after she was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. She averaged 19 points, 8 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game in two wins for the No. 2 Titans.
