‘Omg!!!’: Barreiro looking at second term as Kane Circuit Clerk

Both candidates expressed gratitude to voters

Kane County Board member Theresa Barreiro, D-Aurora, will announce her candidacy for Kane County Circuit Clerk after the Kane County Board meeting at 11:30 a.m. July 9, in front of the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva, Building A.

Incumbent Circuit Clerk Theresa Barreiro clinched a second term, according to unofficial results, handily defeating Republican challenger Anthony Catella.

As of 4 p.m. Nov. 8, Barreiro logged 115,765 votes to Catella’s 100,225.

In a text message, Barreiro wrote, “Omg!!!”

“I am grateful that the voters of Kane County had confidence in me to serve another four years,” Barreiro’s text said. “We are looking forward to continuing to improve the circuit clerk’s office and serve the residents of Kane County.”

Catella said he was disappointed but wished Barreiro well in her new term.

“I gave her a run for her money,” Catella said. “I am exceedingly pleased and very grateful for the votes I received. It infuses me with confidence for any future run.”

Catella ran unsuccessfully for Congress in the 14th District in 2020, for County Board District 13 in 2022 and the St. Charles Library Board in 2023.
