Two area wrestlers remain in title contention at the IHSA Individual Girls Wrestling State Tournament in Bloomington.
Richmond-Burton’s Jasmine McCaskel improved to 17-1 on the season with two wins Friday and will wrestle in the 140-pound semifinals Saturday morning.
Huntley’s Janiah Slaughter (27-4) picked up two wins to advance to the 100 semifinals. Teammate Aubrie Rohrbacher is still alive for a medal for the Red Raiders at 125 in wrestlebacks.
Burlington Central’s Victoria Macias is wrestling in the 110-pound wrestlebacks, as is Dundee-Crown’s Perla Lomeli at 140.
Huntley’s Taylor Casey finished 1-2 at state Friday at 110 to close out her season, as did McHenry’s Natalie Corona at 145. Crystal Lake Central’s Mailei Hudec wrestled at 170 and finished 0-2.
Boys Swimming
Cary-Grove co-op has big day at state: At the FMC Natatorium in Westmont, Cary-Grove co-op, which combines with Crystal Lake Central, Crystal Lake South and Prairie Ridge, advanced to Saturday’s finals in four events at the IHSA Boys Swimming and Diving State Meet.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Drew Watson, Connor Chan, Danial Sanahurskyj and Dexter Zielenski swam to 10th place in 1:34.57 and will compete in the “B” (consolation) finals.
Sanahurskyj will swim in the “A” (championship) finals after taking fifth in the 100 butterfly. Watson earned a spot in the 200 individual medley “B” finals with a 12th-place finish. He will finish a busy day in the 100 backstroke after he was ninth in the prelims.
Other finishes for C-G co-op included: Zielinski (32nd, 100 free); Noah Brereton (23rd, 500 free); Kasparas Venslauskas (19th, 200 IM; 21st, 100 breaststroke); Mason Gaylord (32nd, 100 breaststroke); and Watson, Sanahurskyj, Brereton and Zielinski (15th, 400 free relay).
Michael Boelens (33rd, 100 breaststroke) and Ben Rocks (24th, 50 free; 21st, 100 free) raced for Huntley, and Pavlo Komarov (39th, 50 free) competed for Jacobs.
Huntley’s Boelens, Yehan Subasinghe, Dominic Siwiec and Rocks placed 21st in the 200 medley relay.
