The Crystal Lake Police Department arrested one person on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and unlawful possession of marijuana as part of its Thanksgiving enforcement campaign.
Using federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, the department conducted 15 additional hours of traffic enforcement from Nov. 24 to 27, resulting in 21 additional stops, according to a news release.
An additional 23 tickets and three warnings were issued, including 10 for speeding, three for using a cellphone while driving, two for lane violations, one for lack of insurance and seven for other moving violations, police said.
Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in the campaign as part of a statewide effort to reduce highway fatalities by getting impaired drivers off the roads and more people buckled up, according to the release. During the mobilization, extra emphasis was placed on enforcement during late-night hours.
