McHenry County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a report of an armed robbery at the Wonder Lake convenience store Sunrise Food and Liquor on East Wonder Lake Road that left the clerk with minor injuries.

Police were alerted to the incident around 9:30 p.m. Monday by a hold-up alarm, Deputy Tim Creighton said.

Preliminary information gathered by police shows four people were involved, and at least one them was armed with what appeared to be a handgun. But it is unknown if the weapon was truly a handgun versus a replica or BB gun, Creighton said.

Creighton said the group consisted of three masked men and one woman. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office is waiting on the store’s owner to provide an inventory and value of stolen and damaged items, Creighton said. A clerk sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

He added there are no public safety concerns related to the incident or the people thought to have carried it out.
