A Crystal Lake man was arrested Friday on child pornography charges alleging that he filmed a child engaging in a sexual act.

Luis A. Gonzalez-Garcia, of the 1300 block of Mulberry Lane, is charged with two counts of child pornography, a felony typically punishable by as many as 15 years in prison.

Gonzalez-Garcia is accused in a Crystal Lake Police Department complaint of recording sexually explicit videos of a person he knew to be younger than 18 years old in June and September of this year, court records show. Charging documents did not indicate how old the juvenile in the video was at the time.

The Crystal Lake Police Department could not be reached to provide further details, including how investigators became aware of the allegations.

A McHenry County judge on Friday set Gonzalez-Garcia’s bond at $150,000, meaning the 18-year-old would need to post $15,000 bail to secure his release.

Gonzalez-Garcia was not yet booked at the McHenry County Jail as of early Friday afternoon, and a booking photo was not available.

Gonzalez-Garcia also is charged in several unrelated McHenry County criminal cases. Those include Oct. 7 allegations that Gonzalez-Garcia aided in the theft of a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe. He’s additionally charged with mob action in connection with a Sept. 14 beating that resulted in the loss of a “large portion” of the victim’s right ear, court documents show.

Gonzalez-Garcia also faces felony theft charges in multiple cases from August and September, according to public court records.

Gonzalez-Garcia was appointed an assistant public defender to represent him on bond purposes only Friday and had not yet hired an attorney, court records show.

He is scheduled for a bond hearing Oct. 22.
