McHenry man sentenced to 9 years in prison for sexual assault of a child

The 24-year-old accepted an offer from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and pleaded guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault of a child

A 24-year-old McHenry man on Friday was sentenced to prison in connection with 2020 child sexual assault allegations.

Joseph Calbillo accepted an offer from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and pleaded guilty to a single count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt accepted the plea and sentenced Calbillo to nine years in prison. In exchange for Calbillo’s guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed an additional count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child that was pending against Calbillo, court records show.

Calbillo was arrested in September 2020 in connection with allegations that he sexually assaulted a child younger than 13 in July and September of that year, court records show.

Once he is released from prison, Calbillo will be required to register as a sex offender for life, according to a news release from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
