Huntley sophomore Janiah Slaughter accomplished her goal of improving upon her freshman season by finishing runner-up at 105 pounds at the IHSA individual state tournament. Slaughter was named the Northwest Herald's Inaugural Girls Wrestler of the Year.

Johnsburg freshman Eric Bush became the Skyhawks’ first state wrestling champion with a 3-1 win in the Class 1A 106-pound championship. Bush was selected as the Northwest Herald Athlete of the Week in an online vote.

Marian Central faces Coal City in the Class 1A state dual team wrestling championship.

Marian Central took down defending state champion Coal City 34-27 on Saturday to win the Class 1A dual team state championship in Bloomington. The title is the first in program history.
