Osvaldo Rodriguez’s second goal of the game, an unassisted strike in the 90th minute, lifted Dundee-Crown’s boys soccer team to a 2-1 win over host Huntley in overtime in a Fox Valley Conference opener Thursday night.
Rodriguez’s penalty kick in the seventh minute opened the scoring and had the Chargers up at halftime. D-C keeper Cristo Varela made five saves.
Huntley got its goal from Austin Killen.
Hampshire 2, McHenry 1: At the McHenry Athletic Complex, Juan Alva drilled in a shot off a pass from Mark Schuster in the first half, and Kobe Frenette converted a second-half penalty kick for the Whip-Purs in the season opener.
Woodstock 1, DeKalb 1: At DeKalb, the visiting Blue Streaks opened their season with a nonconference draw.
Oscar Escorza scored the season-opening goal for Woodstock early in the first half with a shot from distance into the top of the goal. Denis Gjoni earned the assist.
DeKalb scored the equalizer on a free kick.
Blue Streaks keeper Stephan Turskey made six saves.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Prairie Ridge 57, Crystal Lake Central 49: At Crystal Lake, Taidhgin Trost and Ethan Empaces each scored five of their nine points in the fourth quarter for the fifth-seeded Wolves in the victory over the Tigers in a consolation game of the Fox Valley Conference Tournament.
Zach Lindquist added eight for Prairie Ridge (6-5). Ninth-seeded Central fell to 3-9.
McHenry 61, Hampshire 52 (OT): At McHenry, Matt Gallimore scored a game-high 28 points, including five 3-pointers, as the Warriors prevailed in overtime of the FVC Tournament consolation game.
David Wachter sank three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points for eighth-seeded McHenry (4-9). Anthony Fowler hit a 3 and scored five of his nine points in OT, helping the Warriors outscore the Whip-Purs, 13-4, after the game was tied at 48 at the end of regulation.
Hampshire (0-12) received 14 points from Chris Le and 12 from Ryan Smekrud, who knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.
GIRLS BOWLING
Johnsburg 1,990, Huntley 1,876: At Raymond’s Bowl in Johnsburg, the host Skyhawks won their final match of the season, as senior Jade Schwichow bowled a match-best 419 series, including a match-best game of 167. Fellow seniors Victoria Blake and Jessica Meyer (405 series) also contributed to the win.
Woodstock was led by Lindsay Spring’s 411 series, which included a 159 game.
Marengo 2,531, Dundee-Crown 2,345: At Liberty Lanes in Carpentersville, the victorious Indians were led by Grace Wzientek (531 series, 220 game) and Raina Hellyer (507, 195).
