Crystal Lake, Algonquin among local police planning special Super Bowl patrols

Crystal Lake and Algonquin police are among local departments that will be conducting special patrols throughout Super Bowl weekend to crack down on impaired drivers and encourage people to wear their seat belts.

The departments remind football fans and Super Bowl partygoers that designated drivers are the best defense against the dangers of impaired driving. Police recommend these tips:

  • Designate a sober driver or make a plan to use a ride-sharing service to get home safely.
  • If you see an impaired driver on the road, pull over and contact the police.
  • Have a friend who is about to drive impaired? Take the keys away and make arrangements to get them home safely. They will thank you later.
  • Always buckle up.

“Everyone wants to have a good time on Super Bowl night, so we want our community residents and guests to plan for safe rides home,” Algonquin police Sgt. Jason Burzynski said in a news release. “Even one drink or hit can impair judgment. You should never put yourself, or others, at risk because you made the choice to drive impaired.”

The Illinois “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is administered and funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
