Authorities gave no further details – including whether the two people were still alive – other than to say in a news release that “there is no threat to the public at this time and the matter is under investigation.”
Earlier Thursday, the sheriff’s office had put out an alert warning about a heavy police presence in the area and advising people to avoid it until further notice. About noon Thursday, roads were blocked in the area of East Tryon Grove Road and Greenwood Road, according to the sheriff’s office. Police later opened the roadway in front of the house to passing traffic.
The area is very rural and very wooded, nestled among Wonder Lake, Richmond and Hebron, with houses spread far apart, a tree farm across the street and other agricultural businesses in the area. A sign off the road near the home in question advertised free-range eggs and fresh beef.
