One man dies in Minooka house fire

MINOOKA – The Grundy County Coroner’s office is investigating the death of a man who died as a result of a house fire that occurred Monday evening around 8 p.m. in rural Minooka, according to Grundy County Coroner John Callahan.

Upon arrival, the Minooka Fire Department reported heavy fire and smoke. Law enforcement confirmed that one elderly man occupant was unable to evacuate, according to a press release from the Minooka Fire Department.

Firefighters immediately entered the residence and located the victim inside the living area of the home. According to firefighters the victim, Diot Ross, 82, was in full arrest after being rescued.

Callahan said Ross, was transported to Morris Hospital where he passed away shortly after 10 p.m.

The Minooka Fire Department said one elderly female was able to evacuate on her own and was transported to Morris Hospital for burns, her condition was unknown at the time of the press release.

The fire was brought under control at 8:17 p.m. The Minooka Fire Department along with other agencies including the Illinois State Fire Marshall’s office is investigating in conjunction with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office.

No details about the cause of the fire are available at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
