Route 20 west of Elgin and near Pingree Grove was shut down Monday afternoon because of a two-vehicle crash.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office said the major roadway was closed near Plank and Russell roads and also farther west at Highland Woods Boulevard.

The closure was announced at about 3:30 p.m.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area to allow first responders to remove the vehicles safely and for the investigation to take place.
