Streator moves forward with land dedications, road improvements

Council awards $413,730 contract for roadwork on North Illinois, East Morrell streets

The Streator City Council approved several roadwork items on Tuesday, including land dedications for a road expansion and a roadwork contract to improve North Illinois and East Morrell streets.

The council approved two resolutions for the Myers-Sherman Way right-of-way in the Streator Industrial Park.

The council accepted a land donation from the Streator Area Chamber of Commerce Industrial Development Corporation, and also dedicated a piece of city-owned land at 1601 S. Illinois St. for the same road project.

These steps were needed to resolve tax issues with Livingston County and to complete the planned road expansion.

The City Council also awarded a $413,730 contract to Universal Asphalt & Excavating of La Salle for roadwork on North Illinois and East Morrell streets.

City Engineer Jeremy Palm said the bid was nearly $144,000 less than the estimated project cost of $558,098, making it an easy cost-effective choice for the city.

These funds come from the 2025 General Revenue Project budget to improve city roads.

In other items, the City Council:

  • discussed and decided to evaluate proposals from multiple trash collection companies for evaluation, as its contract with Waste Management is expiring Apr. 30.
