Bureau County Grand Jury: January 17, 2025

The following cases were considered by the Bureau County Grand Jury on Jan. 17:

  • Michael R.L. Strader, 38, Princeton, was indicted for the Class 2 Felony offense of aggravated battery and the Class 3 Felony offense of threatening a public official. He is accused of making physical contact of an insulting and provoking nature to a Princeton police officer, knowing the officer to be a peace officer preforming his official duties, in that he spit on the officer. In addition, he also is accused of threatening the Princeton police officer in that he told the officer he was going to plunge a 12-inch knife through the officer’s neck. The Princeton police officer testified before the Grand Jury. The defendant is in custody of the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office with pretrial release having been denied.
  • Adam E. Smith, 43, of Princeton, was indicted for the Class 4 Felony offense of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer. The defendant is accused of failing to stop after a uniformed Princeton police officer, driving an official police vehicle, displayed flashing red and blue lights signaling for the vehicle to stop, willfully failed to obey such direction by not stopping the vehicle and in an attempt to elude the police officer, he disobeyed two or more official traffic control devices while fleeing. A Princeton police officer testified before the Grand Jury. The defendant currently is not in custody in this case.
  • Burton C. Mayers, 59, Ladd, was indicted for the Class 2 Felony offense of aggravated battery and the Class 3 Felony offense of threatening a public official. He is accused of making physical contact of an insulting and provoking nature to a Spring Valley police officer, knowing the officer to be a peace officer preforming his official duties, in that he pushed the officer with his hand. In addition, he also is accused of threatening the Spring Valley police officer in that he told the officer he was going hunt him down. The Spring Valley police officer testified before the Grand Jury. The defendant is on pretrial release.
  • Aaron Lamon, 27, Spring Valley, was indicted for the Class 1 Felony offense of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (Cocaine). He is accused of delivering to another 1 gram or more of a substance containing cocaine. An agent from the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team testified before the Grand Jury. The defendant is on pretrial release.

These indictments were presented to the Grand Jury by Bureau County State’s Attorney Daniel C. Anderson, Assistant State’s Attorney Thomas Briddick and Assistant State’s Attorney William Brozovich. The indictments were returned before Judge Geno Caffarini and Judge James Andreoni. There were three suppressed cases.

These indictments are accusations against the defendants. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
