Girls basketball

Marquette 55, Dwight 38: At Bader Gymnasium, the Crusaders improved to 17-9 overall and 7-3 in Tri-County Conference play with the win over the Trojans on Monday.

Marquette was led by Chloe Larson (13 points, five rebounds), Keely Nelson (13 points, three steals) and Kelsey Cuchra (seven points, 13 rebounds, five steals).

Seneca 59, Midland 29: At rural Varna, the Fighting Irish jumped out to a 25-4 first-quarter advantage and never looked back in the TCC triumph over the Timberwolves.

Seneca (18-6, 9-2) was led by a game-high 17 points from Graysen Provance, with Alyssa Zellers adding 12, Audry McNabb 10 and Evelyn O’Connor seven.

Fieldcrest 59, Lexington 47: At Lexington, the Knights, behind 26 points from Macy Gochanour and 23 from TeriLynn Timmerman, improved to 12-10 overall and 5-3 in Heart of Illinois Conference action.

Pru Mangan also netted eight points for Fieldcrest.

Tri-Valley 54, Flanagan-Cornell/Woodland 51: At Flanagan, the Falcons dropped the HOIC game to the Vikings

Ella Derossett had 26 points to lead FCW, with Emma Palaschak adding 10 points and Kora Edens chipping in eight points.

Boys basketball

Seneca 50, Midland 36: At the 98th Tri-County Conference Tournament in Granville, the top-seeded Fighting Irish outscored the No. 8-seeded Timberwolves 18-10 in the fourth quarter to advance to Wednesday’s 5:30 p.m. semifinal against Tuesday’s winner between No. 4 Dwight or No. 5 Lowpoint-Washburn.

Brayden Simek had 13 points to lead Seneca (19-4), with Sebastian Deering adding 11 and Paxton Giertz eight. Cameron Shriey and Brady Sheedy each chipped in seven points.

Morris 72, Newark 54: At Newark, the Norsemen (12-10) trailed 15-6 after one quarter, 35-26 at halftime and 58-37 through three in the home loss.

Newark was led by Dylan Long (20 points, four rebounds), Payton Wills (11 points, seven rebounds), Reggie Chapman (10 points, seven assists) and Jimmy Kath (eight points, five assists).

Genoa-Kingston 63, Somonauk 49: At Genoa, the Bobcats (8-13) couldn’t hold on to a halftime lead in the loss to the Cogs, which hit 12 3-pointers in the contest.

Weston Hannibal led Somonauk with 21 points.
