Seneca 54, Coal City 48: At Coal City, the Fighting Irish improved to 15-4 on the season with the tough win over the Coalers.
Paxton Giertz led Seneca with 13 points, with Brayden Simek adding 12, and Sebastian Deering and Grant Siegel seven each.
“Man, was this a physical game,” Seneca coach Russ Witte said. “We had too many turnovers and allowed too many offensive rebounds in the first half, but Coal City is a really good team. Our close game with them in the (Shipyard Showdown) tournament was no fluke; the Coalers came to play again. We did a great job making the adjustments needed in the second half on the glass and in the turnovers. Brayden Simek made two huge threes in the fourth quarter to give us the cushion we needed.”
