Kankakee girls fall in tough road test: Daily Journal Monday Roundup

Nazareth Academy 51, Kankakee 30: The Kays faced a tough road test Monday against a Nazareth team riding an 18-game winning streak. Nazareth extended that streak to 19 games, dropping Kankakee to 17-12 overall with a nonconference loss.

Ava Johnson scored 12 points for Kankakee in the loss. Malea Harrison hit a pair of 3-pointers to finish with six points while TeLeah Turner added five.

Herscher 46, Peotone 33: After dropping their last four Illinois Central Eight Conference games, the Tigers picked up an ICE win on the road Monday over the Blue Devils. Herscher got back to .500 at 13-13 overall and improved to 6-7 in conference play. Peotone fell to 6-22 overall and ended conference play 3-11.

Herscher was led in scoring by Anistin Hackley with a game-high 15 points. RyLyn Adams was also in double figures with 11 points.

For Peotone, Mal Schroeder finished with eight points and Addison Brandau had six points.

Wilmington 49, Streator 27: Wilmington picked up a win at home Monday in its conference finale. The Wildcats finish with an ICE record of 9-5 while improving to 20-8 overall. No individual stats were immediately available for the Wildcats.

Lisle 53, Reed-Custer 42: The Comets played their final ICE game of the regular season on Monday, falling on the road to finish conference play at 5-9. They fell to 12-15 overall.

Three players scored in double figures for Reed-Custer in the loss. Leah Grace finished with 15 points, Harlie Liebermann had 11 points and Alyssa Wollenzien added 10 points.

Central 50, Momence 36: Since suffering their first River Valley Conference game of the season on Jan. 31, the Comets won each of their last three RVC games. Monday’s road win in conference play over Momence improved Central to 19-9 overall and 14-1 in the RVC, while dropping Momence to 10-13 (8-6).

Central was led by Alexis Prisock with a game-high 18 points. Gracie Schroeder added nine points and Anna Winkel had seven points.

For Momence, Mya Roberson led the team with 11 points. A’Miracle Johnson finished with eight points and Lexie Berns had seven points.

Grant Park 42, Donovan-St. Anne 41: With a one-point victory over the Wildcats on Monday, the Dragons picked up their second win in their last three RVC games. Grant Park improved to 10-13 overall and 6-9 in the RVC while Donovan-St. Anne dropped to 12-12 (7-7).

Grant Park was led by Claire Sluis with 13 points to go with five rebounds. Abi Roberts was also in double figures with 10 points while Taylor Panozzo had six points and seven rebounds.

For Donovan-St. Anne, Laylah Lou Walters put up a game-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds. Tiffany DeYoung had eight points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

Beecher 62, Grace Christian 38: The Bobcats wrapped up their RVC schedule on Monday with a road win over the Crusaders. Beecher finished conference play at 10-6 and improved to 13-16 overall with Monday’s victory. Grace Christian fell to 4-20 (3-12).

It was also senior night for Beecher, and seniors Jenna Pevion and Aylin Lagunas led the team with 18 points and 17 points respectively.

Grace Christian got a game-high 19 points out of Zoey Baldridge and eight points from Abby St. John.

Tri-Point 50, Gardner-South Wilmington 32: Having previously lost to RVC-leading Tri-Point by 37 points earlier this season, the Panthers had a stronger showing in Monday’s rematch. Still, they fell by 18 points to drop to 6-22 overall and 3-11 in the RVC.

Maddie Simms led Gardner-South Wilmington with 17 points in the loss. Madison Wright added seven points.

Boys basketball

Beecher 60, Reed-Custer 51: In a nonconference contest on Monday, Beecher picked up its third win in the last four games while Reed-Custer dropped its fourth game in a row. The Bobcats improved to 15-11 overall on the season with the road win while the Comets fell to 8-19 overall.

Beecher had four players score in double figures, led by Wences Baumgartner with 21 points. Orlin Nesbitt had 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Noah Berry added 14 points and Dominick DeFrank had 10 points.

Reed-Custer got a big double-double from Jacob Reardon, who finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Matthew Kuban was also in double figures with 10 points.
