NIU women knock off Kent State: Wednesday’s Daily Chronicle sports roundup

NIU 73, Kent State 69: At DeKalb, the Huskies (10-12, 4-7) held the Flashes (15-8, 8-3) to 20 first-half points in the victory.

Alecia Doyle scored 23 for the Huskies, making all four of her 3-point attempts. Chelby Koker added 21 on 3-of-5 shooting from long range as NIU shot 61.1% from 3 for the game. Sidney McCrea scored 12 and Brooke Stonebreaker 10.

“For 37-and-a-half minutes that is some of the best basketball we have played,” said head coach Lisa Carlsen. “That was an interesting game to say the least, but that is a very good team that we just beat. I am very proud of everyone who stepped on the floor.”

Girls basketball

Plano 49, Genoa-Kingston 46: At Genoa, the Cogs nearly pulled off the upset of the Reapers behind 20 points from Ally Poegel.

The Cogs trailed by 16 but tied things up 43 before the Reapers (23-4) pulled away. Presley Meyer had 12 for G-K.
