Krista Cobb wasn't going to let one bad throw out of 25,000 ruin her joy. The Sycamore senior rebounded from a rough showing at the Interstate 8 meet, took third at state and was named the Daily Chronicle 2026 Girls Track Athlete of the Year.
Sycamore pitcher Bella Jacobs was voted conference MVP by Interstate 8 coaches as the champion Spartans had five first-team selections. Ottawa and Morris had four selections each, Kaneland and La Salle-Peru had two each and Rochelle had one.

The NIU baseball team's run in the NCAA Tournament ended Sunday with a pair of losses, closing out the team's historic run. Gavin Baldwin homered twice and Carter Cox turned in a gutsy pitching performance on short rest.

Colton VanDyke, Jackson Boryc, Noah Cornell and Benjamin Karl were second for Kaneland in the 4x100 and 4x200, Will Rosenow was second for Sycamore in the shot put, Martin Ledbetter and Parker Murry take third and fourth in 1A, plus more from state track.
