Volvo's V60 T8 is stylish luxury wagon

Plug-in hybrid delivers blend of efficiency, performance

Volvo’s 2025 V60 T8 E-AWD Polestar is a vehicle that bridges the gap between efficiency and high-performance driving. For those seeking a luxurious plug-in hybrid station wagon with a sporty attitude, this Volvo offers plenty to admire.

Like every Volvo I have ever driven over more than two decades of reviewing, this V60 T8 wagon meets the bar for quirky, while also delivering a pretty cool-looking wagon (I know that sounds completely counter-intuitive) at the same time.

Performance

While my affinity for the exterior looks of the wagon may be making you question my sanity, let me reassure you that under the hood there’s an ever more compelling story.

The V60 T8 Polestar and its 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine is paired with an electric motor.

Together, the EV and gas combo delivers an impressive 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. This setup offers 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. As with most hybrids, when the engine’s power mingles with the electric, the 8-speed automatic transmission handles the transition with ease.

The E-AWD system provides excellent grip and stability, even in challenging weather conditions. Polestar engineers have fine-tuned the suspension to strike a balance between sportiness and comfort, though I found the ride to feel a bit too firm over rougher roads. Steering was precise and responsive, though it does lack the refined level of feedback expected in a performance-oriented vehicle.

In case you did not know it, Polestar is Volvo’s all-electric brand. So, it should be reassuring to see the brand associated with the V60 wagon’s extra pop and efficiency. Volvo says a full overnight charge on a common 120-volt wall outlet nets roughly 41 miles of electric range, plenty for around-town driving. If you have a 240-volt charger, a full charge takes but five hours.

Design

Upon first look, there is a confident elegance and refinement in the exterior look of the V60 T8 wagon. Its streamlined silhouette combines sharp angles with smooth curves, presenting a design that’s distinctly Scandinavian. The Thor’s Hammer LED headlights add a modern flair, while subtle Polestar accents hint at the vehicle’s performance capabilities.

I love the sporty feel of the wagon and the big 19-inch alloy rims with all-weather rubber to ensure this wagon stays plated on the pavement. Beautiful gold Brembo brake calipers are visible and add another sporty component to the exterior.

Inside, the cabin is a masterclass in minimalist luxury. Soft leather and premium materials cover every surface, with clean lines and an uncluttered dashboard, creating an open, inviting atmosphere. Cargo space is generous for a wagon, with 50.9 cubic feet available with the rear seats folded down.

I appreciated the sport-inspired front seats featuring power adjustments and plenty of bolstering for long trips. Rear passengers may find the legroom slightly less accommodating, particularly taller adults who must contend with that sporty roofline diving steeply at the rear.

Cost

My tester started at $71,250, with the model reviewed priced at $72,835 after optional features and destination charges. While this places it in the premium segment, buyers will need to weigh the V60’s unique blend of luxury, performance, and eco-friendliness against its higher-than-average cost. Safety is of course a signature of Volvo and this is the wild card for many who swear by the Swedish carmaker.

The 2025 Volvo V60 T8 E-AWD Polestar is a compelling option for those who prioritize style, comfort and a spirited drive while maintaining an eco-conscious edge. My feeling is you also get one of the more distinctive-looking vehicles out there – if not a bit Euro-retro.

This is a vehicle that offers versatility, whether navigating city streets or open highways. The V60 Polestar represents Volvo’s vision for the future of hybrid performance, appealing to those who want a taste of tomorrow’s driving experience today.
