The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service is seeking public input on a plan for the future of recreation at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie.

The agency will host a virtual listening session from 7 to 8 p.m. March 22, according to a news release.

“Outdoor recreation connects people to nature and provides innumerable benefits,” said acting Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie supervisor Linwood Butler in a statement. “Residents of the communities in the area are the engine that will drive recreational success for this very special place. As the USDA Forest Service begins to shape the framework for a reimagined recreation plan, your involvement is essential. We want to hear from you.”

Attendees will be asked their thoughts on a series of questions, including:

• Have you visited Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, and if so, what was your experience like? What do you remember most?

• What would like to see at Midewin NTP?

• What do you like about your favorite outdoor recreation spot?

• Are there programs that the USDA Forest Service should consider providing at Midewin NTP that you have seen implemented successfully elsewhere?

• Are there groups or organizations that would appreciate connecting with Midewin NTP?

• Are there examples of recreational approaches that have been successful elsewhere in providing services and programs to underserved communities and connecting residents of underserved communities with nature and natural resources?

Those unable to attend the session but who wish to provide responses in writing can email them to sm.fs.Midewin_RSVP@usda.gov or mail them to USDA Forest Service, Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, 30239 Highway 53, Wilmington, IL 60481.
