Foster says he supports Democrats’ $3.5 trillion budget bill

U.S. Rep. Bill Foster said he supports the $3.5 trillion budget resolution that Democrats are trying to push through Congress.

Supporters of the massive investment in what President Joe Biden has called “human infrastructure” includes billions of dollars in funding for a myriad of social programs.

“I’m proud to support this budget resolution and its transformative investments in the health and financial security of hard-working families,” Foster, D-Naperville, said in a statement. “A budget should be a statement of values, and this budget is a clear statement that Congressional Democrats are committed to enacting bold policies to help lift up workers and families by extending the Biden Child Tax Credit, creating the first-ever paid family and medical leave benefit, and establishing universal pre-K and tuition-free community college.”

The congressman also cited the inclusion of a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, immigrants granted temporary protected status and farmworkers.

Foster said the legislation would “open a door of opportunity” to more than 100,000 immigrants in Illinois who “contribute so much to our neighborhoods, businesses, and schools.”
