U.S. Rep. Bill Foster is pushing to allow undocumented immigrants who were brought to the country as children to serve in the U.S. military.
Last week, Foster, D-Naperville, introduced a resolution supporting the ability of so-called “Dreamers” to serve, according to a news release.
“Dreamers deserve the right to serve in our military as patriots,” Foster said in a statement. “Allowing our Dreamers to enlist and serve in the military would make sure our armed forces have some of the best and brightest young minds in their ranks.”
The congressman’s resolution calls on the secretary of defense to review U.S. law to allow for these undocumented immigrants to enlist.
“Every American deserves the right to serve their country through military service and Dreamers should be no exception,” Foster said.
