Will County residents will again be able to give their input for a study on future industrial development strategies this month via a virtual workshop.
The Moving Will County project is a partnership between the county and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning that combines two studies centered on truck routing and land use strategy.
The goal is to achieve “a balance between truck traffic and routing, existing freight land use clusters and new development, agricultural business, natural and cultural resources and residential areas,” according to a project summary.
Nick Palmer, the chief of staff to the Will County Board, said the study aims to give municipalities a sense of the warehouse development in the county and use the data to better plan for future developments. He added the hope is get stakeholders in the county on the same page for which areas may be best for further development and which are not.
The Moving Will County team will hold the virtual workshop on Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. for residents to learn more about the land use strategies being considered and provide feedback via live polling and Q&A.
The group held a similar workshop on the truck route aspect of the study last year. During that workshop, attendees were able to vote on which routes would be best designated for trucks in and around the Joliet area, especially near the Interstate 55 and 80 corridors.
