Morris Hospital warns of potential phone scam

Calls appear to come from Morris Hospital or one of Morris Hospital’s Healthcare Centers.

Effective Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, patients hospitalized at Morris Hospital, including patients in the family birthing suites are allowed just one visitor at a time. Patients with COVID-19 may not have visitors.

A news release from Morris Hospital & Healthcare Center on Tuesday warned the community of a potential phone scam.

Calls appear as if they are coming from Morris Hospital or a Morris Hospital health care center, the release said.

Patient reports said the caller claims to be from Morris Hospital or provider’s office associated with Morris Hospital, claims to work for the patient’s provider and, in many cases, correctly states the provider’s name, the release said.

The caller then claims the provider wants to send medications or medical supplies to the patients home and/or order genetic testing for the patient, the release said.

Morris Hospital said in the release that the calls are not legitimate and are likely scams to obtain patients’ personal information, such as home address Medicare number. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up, the release said.

To double-check if a provider intended to contact you, call the number you typically use to schedule appointments with the provider, the release said.
