A day just for Joliet youth and their families

Joliet Unity Movement held annual 815 Youth Day on Aug. 15

Children’s laughter and talent filled Nowell Park in Joliet on Aug. 15 at the Joliet Unity Movement’s annual 815 Youth Day.

Mago the Magician “captivated the young audience,” a release from the Joliet Unity Movement said, and the youth showcased their talents on stage by dancing, singing and engaging in a “rap battle.”

Other features of the day included a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, carnival games and dunk tank. Giveaways included T-shirts, book bags and “essential care packages,” the release said.

In the meantime, several community agencies provided parents with information and resources. The agencies included Prairie State Legal, Will County Health Department, Black Caucus, Eric Lurry Foundation, Veterans Assistance Commission and Spanish Community Center, the release said.

Now in its eighth year, the Joliet Unity Movement is planning a variety of new programs including programs on financial literacy, know-your-rights seminars and trade readiness, the release said.
