5 Things to do in Will County: a Hawaiian experience in Plainfield

1) Start the weekend early Thursday night with the greatest music hits of 1970s by Strung Out at The Shorewood Party In The Park event. 2) Jimmy Buffett fans, don’t miss Jimmy Buffett Fest this Friday starting at 5 p.m. and ending 10 p.m. Sunday at Fritz’s Saloon, 225 S State St. in Manhattan, Features include live entertainment, games, food and Buffett-style drinks. For information, visit Fritz’s Saloon on Facebook.

3) Enjoy a performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lockport Township Building, 1463 S Farrell Road in Lockport. Friday and Saturday’s performances will be outdoors, weather permitting, so visitors are advised to bring their own camping chairs or blankets for seating. Picnic baskets and coolers are welcome. Sunday’s matinee will be indoors.

4) Get some fresh air and exercise while enjoying the beauty of Hickory Creek Preserve – LaPorte Road Access, Mokena by participating in a volunteer workday event from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday. 5) Wrap up the weekend with a night of Hawaiian music, dancing and swimming from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ottawa Street Pool, 23820 W. Ottawa St. in Plainfield. Admittance will be free to the public.

A performance from The Barefoot Hawaiian, a Polynesian performing arts troupe based in Des Plaines, will include hulas from Hawaii, Maori twirling poi balls from New Zealand and Tahitian drum dancing.
