A 74-year-old woman is expected to survive after getting struck by a vehicle outside a Joliet Walmart, Joliet police said.
The driver who hit her remains under investigation, police said.
Officers responded to the incident about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at Walmart, 2424 W. Jefferson St., according to a statement from Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English.
A Chevrolet Cruze driven by a 37-year-old man had backed out of a parking stall and collided with a Ford Escape, English said.
A 74-year-old passenger and the driver of the Ford Escape exited the vehicle to check the damage and speak with the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze, English said.

Officers believe that the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze drove in reverse and struck the woman, causing her to fall to the ground, English said.
“The driver then drove forward, hitting the woman while she was on the ground and pinning her beneath the vehicle,” English said.
The Chevrolet Cruze also collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle during the incident, English said.
Bystanders assisted the victim and prevented the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze from driving any further, English said.
The 74-year-old woman was taken to Saint Jospeh Medical Center with serious injuries that officers believe are not life-threatening, English said.
The driver of the Chevrolet Cruze was taken to the Joliet Police Department for questioning and then released “pending additional investigation and processing of evidence in this case,” police said.
The police department’s traffic unit continues to investigate the incident.
