The Joliet owner of a firearm that was used in the shooting of a 5-year-old has been arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
At 6 p.m. Thursday, officers apprehended Amin Hudson, 38, on the charge after an investigation of the May 15 incident in which a 5-year-old allegedly was shot by an 8-year-old, Joliet Police Sgt. Tizoc Landeros said.
“The investigation revealed [Hudson] was the owner of the firearm used in the shooting of the 5-year-old victim,” Landeros said.
The child was struck once in the arm, Landeros said. He said the child has undergone several surgeries since the incident.
On Friday, Landeros said the child is “doing well,” and he is in the care of his mother.
Hudson’s arrest marks at least the second arrest made in the investigation of the shooting of a child that took place at a residence in the 500 block of Dover Street.
On June 21, Denise Hudson, 62, who is Amin Hudson’s mother, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of endangering the life and health of the 5-year-old child she was babysitting when she allegedly failed to call 911 after the shooting, Landeros said.
The child is related to Denise Hudson, Landeros said.
A 911 phone call was made about an hour and a half after the shooting, and the call was made by the child’s mother at a hospital, Landeros said.
In the investigation of Amin Hudson, a detective reviewed evidence that indicated he possessed the firearm for several months before the shooting, Landeros said.
Amin Hudson was not supposed to possess the firearm because he had a prior felony conviction for delivery of cocaine, according to court records.
