Laboratory techs have always been available 24/7 at MercyOne Newton Medical Center, and the renovation has only increased the efficiencies of staff, whose volumes have increased to 40,000 this past fiscal year.

Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and the University of St. Francis in Joliet have partnered to forgive up to $10,000 per qualified graduate, according to a news release from the University of St. Francis.

The graduates must have completed the University of St. Francis’ medical laboratory science and radiography programs and also successfully passed registry/certification exams, according to the release.

Newsweek has named Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals for 2022.

The loan forgiveness program, which began Oct. 1 and is in place for one year, applies to funds borrowed through the Federal Direct Loan Program, according to the release.

The reimbursement will come in exchange for accepting full-time employment at Silver Cross Hospital during this timeframe, according to the release.

Silver Cross will make direct payments to the student loans in two installments: 50% (up to $5,000) at the one-year anniversary of each individual’s hire date, and the second 50% (up to $5,000) at the two-year anniversary of each individual’s hire date, according to the release.
