A 24-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the head at Pilcher Park in Joliet and he was flown to a hospital in Chicago for treatment.
The young man is one of two victims in a shooting reported at Pilcher Park, 2501 Highland Drive. The other victim is 46-year-old man who suffered multiple gunshots to his legs.
The discovery of the shooting victims began when officers responded about 1 p.m. Thursday to a report of people arguing and shots fired at Pilcher Park, according to Joliet Police Sgt. Tizoc Landeros.
While the 24-year-old man was found at Pilcher Park with several gunshot wounds, the 46-year-old man was found at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Landeros said.
The 46-year-old man had apparently drove a vehicle to Silver Cross Hospital after the shooting and crashed into a security vehicle when he arrived, Landeros said.
Several firearms were found in the 46-year-old man’s vehicle, Landeros said. A handgun had also been found near the 24-year-old man at Pilcher Park, he said.
The 46-year-old man is in stable condition at Silver Cross Hospital.
The 24-year-old man had also been taken to Silver Cross Hospital. But once he was in stable condition, he was flown to a hospital in Chicago, Landeros said.
“This is an isolated incident to the parties involved and there is no threat to the community. All the individuals involved have been accounted for and there is no one outstanding,” Landeros said.
