National Guard troops patrolled in Tennessee’s second-largest city for the first time Friday while soldiers in Illinois were engaged only in planning and training

As the legality of the deployment of Texas National Guard troops to Illinois was debated in court Thursday, more equipment and materials arrived at the troops' base in Elwood.

An “element” of 200 Texas Guard troops were working in the Chicago area, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Northern Command

National Guard troops from Texas stationed at an Army Reserve base in Elwood have increased security as residents voice objections to their presence.

“What businesses crave about all else is certainty,” Doug Pryor, president and chief executive officer of the Will County Center for Economic Development, said Wednesday. “This scenario creates additional uncertainty and that creates operational challenges for businesses.”

DeKalb Police Chief David Byrd confirmed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were in town Tuesday.

Will County officials confirmed members of the Texas National Guard are using a training site south of Joliet to prepare for deployment in Chicago.

Despite pushback from Illinois’ governor, Texas National Guard troops are mobilizing in the Chicago region, sources said Tuesday.
