More than 30 non-profits are gathering under one roof, enabling community members a chance to explore opportunities for community service during the Volunteer Fair in Batavia. The fair is from 2 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6 in the Batavia Public Library, 10 S Batavia Avenue.

The speaker is Sarah Staudt, senior policy director for the Appleseed Lawyers for Fair Courts, who has spent years developing the legislation.

The next in-person candidate forum, for Illinois House Representative District 42, begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 in Glen Ellyn.

Candidates who have accepted the invitation to participate in the forum are Rich Janor and Janet Yang Rohr.

Imperial Oak Brewing in Brookfield is the setting for the event, where guests can sample brews and flights of cheddar cheeses.

An attorney will discuss “Aging of the Prison Population in Illinois and the Need for Elder Parole” at 7 p.m. Oct. 19.

Featuring a counselor and five school superintendents on its panel, League of Women Voters groups from several communities team up to present “Preventing Gun Violence Through a Community of Care.”

Cantigny and the League of Women Voters of Wheaton announce a free presentation on Ukraine in their Civic Awareness Series at 7 p.m. May 12, offered in person and online.

The discussion will be led by Thomas Gochenour, a staff pharmacist and compounder at Rush University Medical Center.

Amanda Vinicky’s remarks will focus on current happenings in the Illinois General Assembly and the upcoming primary elections.
