Students at a handful of Sauk Valley high schools are working to break down stereotypes and promote tolerance, acceptance and wellness among their peers in an effort to develop healthy relationships through the BLIND program.

About 500 freshmen from six area high schools attended a BLIND (Building Lasting Impressions that Never Die) retreat Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, as a way to build leadership skills and understanding.

Fulton's Miraya Pessman (three aces) had 15 kills and Chloe Wilkin chipped in with 12 as the Steamers beat Iowa's Northeast 3-1. Eastland, E-P, Newman and West Carroll also picked up volleyball wins in Tuesday's roundup.

The Erie-Prophetstown Panthers won the Ed Schmidt Invitational Track Meet at Erie High School on Friday, April 19, 2024. The boys team scored 89 points to win the meet with Morrison finishing second with 78 points followed with Milledgeville with 50. Kewanee (Wethersfield) won the girls meet with 106 points followed by Erie-Prophetstown with 77, Milledgeville with 41, Morrison with 23 and Savanna (West Carroll) with 16.

The Erie-Prophetstown and Oregon competitive cheer squads are gearing up for sectionals, which will be Saturday.

Erie-Prophetstown’s team attended a National Cheerleaders Association camp at Iowa State University in June, where it qualified for the honor.

The Morrison girls basketball team jumped out to an early lead, then pulled away from Erie-Prophetstown for a Three Rivers West win Tuesday night at home. Meanwhile, the Amboy girls beat Bureau Valley, and the Dixon and Oregon wrestling teams both swept triangulars.

The Newman, Erie-Prophetstown and Forreston softball teams won regional titles Friday, as did the Fulton baseball team. Locals also fared well at the 1A Rochelle boys tennis sectional.

Erie-Prophetstown won its first postseason game in eight seasons on Saturday afternoon, opening the Class 2A playoffs with a 56-20 rout of Clifton Central, as E-P senior quarterback Kolby Franks ran for four touchdowns and passed for two more.

Students of the Month for February 2021 have been recognized for outstanding effort and performance.
