The Plainfield and Bolingbrook fire departments have each secured special fire alarms meant to assist residents who are hearing impaired through a donation to the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance.

The Hill Street Neighborhood, a proposed Mt. Morris development dedicated to providing disabled residents who require support services the opportunity to live alongside those without disabilities, earned Illinois Housing Development Authority-backing to the tune of $8 million.

A nonprofit organization that helps individuals with disabilities live full lives held an event at the Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb recently in celebration of the 33rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

With the grant, the district can update the facility’s kitchen to an ADA-accessible teaching kitchen that will provide recreational and instructional opportunities, while also serving senior luncheons.

Students with disabilities and their families are invited to Options Fair 2022, returning as an in-person event this year.

Eddie Butler, 19, of Plainfield became a quadriplegic as a result of the 1990 Plainfield tornado. He died quietly two days after the tornado's 32nd anniversary.

Prairie Trail at the Landings in New Lenox has 22 one-bedroom and three-bedroom units with their own bathroom, kitchen, living space and storage so adults with disabilities can live independently. Trinity Services staff have offices on the first floor to help support residents.

The 28th Annual Tom O'Reilly Memorial Golf Classic will be held May 19 at the Odyssey Golf Club in Tinley. Foursome slots are still available. Proceeds benefit Trinity Services in New Lenox.
