One of two suspects in a 2020 Boulder Hill drive-by shooting that left two women dead has been sentenced to life in prison.

Herman Haehlen, 65, has been charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, both felonies.

A man is in custody while another man is still at large in connection with an aggravated carjacking that occurred Monday night in the 0-100 block of Seneca Drive in the Boulder Hill subdivision.

In what police described as an attempted gangland hit, the two allegedly used an AR-15 assault rifle to shoot into a home on Sierra Road in the unincorporated Boulder Hill subdivision late on the morning of Nov. 11, 2020, resulting in the death of two women.

The sheriff’s office said the deceased was a passenger in a Chevrolet Trailblazer that left the roadway and struck a tree at 8:32 p.m. on Briarcliff Road near Bereman Road in the unincorporated subdivision.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office reported that Nicholas E. Luxich allegedly attempted to damage state supported property and resisted arrest as deputies conducted their investigation at the scene.

Initial reports indicate that three vehicles were involved in the crash.

The park district chose to keep both facilities closed last year because of the pandemic. However, the park district’s splash pad at Prairie Point Park, 4120 Plainfield Road in Oswego, opened late last summer with capacity and safety restrictions in place.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office said Diaz was arrested on charges of domestic battery and obstructing a peace officer. Additionally, the sheriff’s office said Diaz was found to be wanted on a Kendall County warrant for a prior aggravated assault charge.

James E. Brown Jr., of North Aurora, faces charges of first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm. If found guilty for either of the first pair of charges, Brown could face life in prison without the possibility of parole under Illinois firearm enhancement sentencing.
