Morrison junior sprinter Brady Anderson is the Sauk Valley Athlete of the Week. He won the state title in the 100, took second in the 200 to teammate Levi Milder and anchored wins in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

It wasn't the finish the team hoped for, but Newman finished fourth at the Class 2A state tournament after a 9-3 loss to Eureka on Saturday at Illinois Field in Champaign. The Comets were proud of the run after a third straight state trophy.

Two three-run innings were costly on Friday as Newman fell 9-3 to Teutopolis in the Class 2A state semifinals at Illinois Field. The Comets face Eureka in Saturday's third-place game at 4 p.m.
