K9 Haze joins Ogle County Sheriff’s Office

OREGON – The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office has a new four-legged member.

K9 Haze joined the department thanks to a $13,000 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which covered 100% of his expenses. He and his handler, Deputy Zac Hare, will join Deputy Shippert and K9 Duke to complete the K9 Unit at the Sheriff’s Office.

The additional dog will allow Ogle County to have a K9 Team on duty every day. Walmart also awarded a supplemental grant to cover equipment for the K9 Unit.

“We are committed to helping organizations such as the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office continue their life-saving work within local communities,” said Robin Peters, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Executive Director. “We are honored to be able to award this grant and do our part to ensure that Ogle County is safer for everyone, including first responders.”

The K9 will assist in locating missing/endangered persons, handler protection, criminal apprehension and drug detection.

The grant was one of 96 Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation awarded to public safety organizations across the country during the most recent grant application period. The 96 grants total more than $1.8 million.
