United Township kept trying to pull away, but Sterling just wouldn’t go away. It took a couple of late layups off steals at half court for the Panthers to finally finish off a 51-38 victory over the Golden Warriors on Friday at Musgrove Fieldhouse.

Trailing by six points in the final half-minute of the third quarter, Newman went on a huge run to take the lead and then held on to defeat Mendota 67-66 on Tuesday in a battle of the only unbeaten teams in the Three Rivers East.

Confidence and aggressiveness were the name of the game Friday night for Dixon, as it used a huge third-quarter run to break open a tie game and pull away for a 53-37 victory over Stillman Valley at Lancaster Gym.

La Salle-Peru scored the last five points of the first quarter and first eight of the second to grab the momentum and pull away from Sterling for a 65-41 win Tuesday.

Rochelle beat Sterling 70-57 after the Golden Warriors' run made it a one-point game. Van Gerber scored a game-high 24 points to help the Hubs respond.
