Cole Mulnix, 6-8 junior center, came off the bench and scored 10 points, all in the second half, with several blocked shots, to give the Rock Falls the spark it needed to lift it to a 49-43 win over Princeton in the Class 2A Marengo Sectional championship.

Eastland slowed the game down against No. 1 Pecatonica and held on for a big 36-31 road win to earn its first sectional title since 2013. 'Our game plan was necessary to win.'

Fulton junior basketball player Landen Leu, who was a key contributor after missing the first month of the season due to a broken ankle, is the Sauk Valley Athlete of the Week in an online vote. 'Landen came back and immediately changed the dynamic of our team.'

Princeton and Rock Falls will meet Friday night in the Class 2A Marengo Sectional championship. The Tigers, who have won 12 straight games, beat the Rockets 60-52 on Jan. 4 at Rock Falls.
