Woodland Arts to stage ‘Dirty Rotten $coundrel$’

STERLING – “Dirty Rotten $coundrel$,” a production of the Sauk Valley Theatre Alliance, will be presented from 7 to 9 p.m. July 8, 9 and 10 on the outdoor stage behind Woodlawn Arts Academy, 3107 Woodlawn Road.

It’s a comedy of cons and one-upmanship by rival swindlers. Lawrence Jameson lives lavishly by smooth-talking women out of their riches. Freddy Benson uses stories about his grandmother’s failing health to solicit funds. After meeting on a train, they attempt to work together, only to find that this small French town isn’t big enough for the two of them. They agree on a settlement: the first one to extract $50,000 from a young female target, heiress Christine Colgate, wins, and the other must leave town.

Donations will be accepted to benefit future Theatre in the Park productions. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket, food and drinks. For this event only, adult beverages are allowed in the park. Park closes at 10 p.m. In case of rain, watch social media for cancellations or changes. Parental discretion advised for language and some adult content.
