Sterling church’s food pantry reopening in March under new management

Commodity Supplemental Foods Program provides meal boxes to senior citizens once a month. The boxes include bottled juice, canned fruits and vegetables, hot and cold cereals, cheese, peanut butter, beans, pastas, shelf stable milk and powdered milk.

STERLING — After a brief pause, the Sterling First Church of the Nazarene’s Helping Hands food pantry will reopen Thursday, March 6.

Pantry Manager Kassy Wells said Helping Hands closed for restructuring after the former manager decided to retire after running the pantry for 15 years.

Helping Hands provides nonperishable food items and frozen meat to those in need. The pantry relies on monetary and food donations from individuals, businesses and organizations.

The pantry is at 1208 E. Fourth St. and will be open every Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Sterling and Rock Falls residents can utilize the pantry once a month and will need to bring a photo ID and share how many people are in their household.
