Greater Elgin Family Care Center in McHenry, DeKalb changes name

Most of the nonprofit’s nine locations were using different names, which was confusing for patients, its CEO and president says

Greater Family Health has a location at 3901 Mercy Drive in McHenry.

Greater Elgin Family Care Center rolled out a new name last month, Greater Family Health, part of its efforts to bring all nine of its health centers under a cohesive brand.

The name change also came as the nonprofit, which serves Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Kane and McHenry counties, launched a new website and streamlined call center, according to a news release.

“Three things will not change,” President and CEO Bob Tanner said in a statement. “First, our important mission will always remain the same: to provide quality, affordable health care for all, including those without the ability to pay. Second, patients will still be able to see the practitioners and team members who have cared for them all along. Finally, they will also still have access to the patient portal and their complete medical record.”

In addition to the Elgin location, Greater Family Health has locations in McHenry, DeKalb, Sycamore, Streamwood, Hanover Park and Wheeling, according to its website. Most of these locations operated under different names.

“Not only was this confusing, but we also found through research that most people who were using one of our health centers were unaware of the other locations and services that we offer,” Tanner said in the release. “By using one name, streamlining our website and social media strategy, and establishing a single telephone number, we will increase awareness of all the services our organization offers.”

Greater Family Health provides prevention, diagnostic and treatment services and programs for people of all ages, including dental services and behavioral health, according to the release. The nonprofit also offers services aimed at removing barriers to care, including translation services, discounted pharmaceuticals and transportation assistance.
