The village of Lake in the Hills is seeking applicants to fill vacancies in two municipal positions: village clerk and trustee.
The village clerk seat is open after no candidates stepped up to run for the office in the April 6 election, according to election results produced by the McHenry County Clerk’s Office. The clerk is responsible for the keeping of public records with tasks such as maintaining and organizing ordinances passed by the village.
The open seat on the Lake in the Hills Board of Trustees was left by former Trustee Ray Bogdanowski, who ran in an uncontested race this spring to become the village’s president, Village Administrator Fred Mullard said Wednesday.
Although it was clear that Bogdanowski would become the village president after the election, the village could not put up his seat for election before he did, which is why it now will fall on the Village Board to choose a candidate rather than the voters, Mullard said.
Whoever fills this role would be appointed to serve out the rest of Bogdanowski’s term ending on May 2023, at which point they could choose whether to run for reelection, Mullard said.
“Each position plays a unique role and offers a great way to make your voice heard,” the village said in the notice announcing the vacancies. “Both positions are provided a small amount of compensation for their work.”
In the case of the clerk, this compensation takes the form of an annual salary of $6,000 a year, paid in equal monthly installments, according to the village’s website.
Trustees are paid $125 for each regular and special meeting of the Board of Trustees and Committee of the Whole. During the months of November and December, this rate rises to $250 for the one Committee of the Whole and one regular Village Board meeting held during those months, according to the website.
Anyone interested in serving on the Lake in the Hills Village Board or as clerk are advised to send a resume and letter of interest to Mullard at fmullard@lith.org by April 30.
More information on the two positions can be found on the village’s website by clicking on the “Our Village” tab, navigating to “News” and then looking for the news item titled, “Get involved in your local government.”
