Man arrested twice on Thanksgiving, charged with hitting police officer with car

A Sterling man faces felony aggravated battery charges after Marengo police said he hit a police officer with his car, an arrest that came only hours after Crystal Lake police allege he trespassed at a home.

Robert Burrow, 20, of the 800 block of East Sixth Street, first was arrested about 11:30 a.m. Thursday and charged with criminal trespass to a residence, a felony, along with misdemeanor charges for criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Crystal Lake police, Burrow entered a home in the zero to 100 block of South McHenry Avenue in Crystal Lake without permission while someone was home and knocked over a bookshelf.

Crystal Lake police were unable to provide additional details Friday.

Burrow was arrested again that evening by Marengo police, court records show.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Marengo police, officers tried to arrest Burrow, but he allegedly refused to exit his vehicle and fled the scene, hitting an officer with his car in the back, shoulder and left arm. Burrow was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Thursday night by Marengo police.

Burrow was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and aggravated battery with use of a deadly weapon, both of which are felonies. He also was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and three counts of resisting a police officer.

Marengo police were unable to be reached Friday for information on the incident and the officer’s condition.

Burrow remained in custody at the McHenry County Jail on Friday afternoon on a $75,000 bond, which means he would need to post $7,500 bail in order to be released. He is due back in court Wednesday.

The McHenry County Public Defender’s Office, which is representing Burrow, could not be reached for comment Friday.
