McHenry's boys track and field team captured the McHenry County meet on its home track, while Huntley won the girls championship. Marengo's Jackson Heimsoth and Johnsburg's Hope Klosowicz were named athletes of the meet.

Naperville North flexed its muscle Friday night by winning its own Gus Scott Invitational. Cary-Grove was second, while Wheaton Warrenville South took third and Jacobs was fourth.

The boys track and field season starts this week. Here are five athletes to watch this season in the Northwest Herald area.

Huntley senior Tommy Nitz won all but one of his races this season, which he capped by winning the 1,600-meter run at the Class 3A Boys Track and Field State Meet. The Coastal Carolina-bound Nitz is the 2025 Northwest Herald Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Huntley's Tommy Nitz became the second Red Raider in as many weekends to win a state title. The senior capped his high school career in grand style with a first-place finish in the Class 3A 1,600-meter run at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Field.

Cary-Grove's Logan Abrams qualified for the IHSA Class 3A Boys Track and Field State Meet finals in the shot put and discus, Huntley's Tommy Nitz clocked the fastest 1,600 time, and Johnsburg's Brett Centnarowicz sits in second place in the 2A discus.
