A man died in a crash Monday morning near Wonder Lake.
Wonder Lake Fire Protection District Chief Matt Yegge confirmed Monday afternoon the man was dead upon fire crews’ arrival to the scene.
The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District was called to the area of Howe Road and Wonder Woods Drive about 8:30 a.m. Monday, according to a news release.
Crews arrived on scene in about four minutes to find a single vehicle accident involving a gray sedan. The car had struck a tree, had heavy front-end damage and was located several yards off Howe Road, according to the release.
Crews made contact with the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, but it was determined he had died, according to the release.
Yegge said another driver saw the car off the road and called the fire department.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, according to the release.
A stretch of Howe Road was closed for much of the day Monday because of the crash. Howe Road between West Wonder Lake Road and Wonder Wood Drive was closed about 9 a.m. for a vehicle crash. The sheriff’s office the road reopened about 3 p.m.
Neither the sheriff’s nor the coroner’s offices could immediately be reached for future details.
