Three people were shot in a car that was parked in front of a house in Carpentersville late Wednesday, police said.
Four people were inside the car on the 1200 block of Navajo Drive when two people approached them, leading to a confrontation, resulting in three of the four people in the car being shot, Carpentersville police said in a news release.
The two offenders fled the scene immediately after the incident, authorities said.
The car then left the scene and “attempted to reach a local hospital while someone inside called 911,” according to the release.
“Police located the car at the intersection of Randall Road and Broadsmore Drive in Algonquin, where they began administering life-saving measures to the victims," according to the release. “Their swift actions ensured that all three victims were promptly transported to area hospitals.”
Two of the people who were shot have been released, while the other remains hospitalized in stable condition, police said, adding the investigation is ongoing.
“Based on the information gathered so far, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public,” police said, although they did not report having anyone in custody.
Authorities credited responding officers, dispatchers and medical personnel for helping “save lives last night.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Carpentersville Police Det. Sgt. Acevedo at 224-293-1716 or submit an anonymous tip through the department’s online portal at cville.org.
“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families affected by last night’s senseless act of violence. We stand united in our commitment to seek justice,” police said.
The home is located just off Helm Road.
Police had posted a message on Facebook about midnight that “the scene is secure” and “there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
Algonquin police had put out a traffic alert overnight that Randall Road was shut down between Longmeadow Parkway and Broadsmore Drive. Algonquin police earlier Thursday confirmed that the shutdown was related to the Carpentersville incident. The road has since reopened.
