An 18-year-old woman was cited after she lost control of her car and it hit a home, breaking the gas line, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office, Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department were dispatched at 2:46 p.m. Thursday in the 8600 block of Route 14 outside Crystal Lake where a vehicle had crashed into a home, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Emily Matusek said.
At the scene, deputies learned that an 18-year-old female driver was driving southeast on Route 14 when, due to the winter road conditions, she lost control of the vehicle, Matusek said.
The vehicle left the road to the south, crashing into a residence and breaking the gas line, she said.
The driver was not injured and the home was unoccupied at the time of the crash, Matusek said.
McHenry County Planning and Development deemed the home uninhabitable until the gas lines were repaired. The road was closed for about two hours, reopening about 5 p.m., according to Matusek and alerts issued by the city of Crystal Lake.
The driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
