Northern Illinois could get 2 to 5 inches of snow

At 1 a.m., expect it to fall rate of an inch per hour

Northern Illinois could receive snowfall totals of two to five inches Saturday night and into Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Romeoville.

The snowfall is expected to begin around 9 p.m. and continue until about 6 a.m.

Winter weather advisories were issued for most of northern Illinois; essentially all points north of Kankakee County’s southern boundary on a line extending west.

Snowfall will continue through the night and possibly pickup at around 1 a.m., reaching a rate of one inch per hour. The snow is expected to be light and fluffy. Motorists should be advised that this could result in reduced visibility and snow-covered roads.

Northwest Indiana also is expected to experience lake-effect snow on Saturday night, according to forecasters.

The extended forecast said another round of snow is expected to fall north of Interstate 80 starting Sunday night. The expected total should be be 1 to 3 inches.
